Cruise Tips That Everyone Should Know
Published Tuesday, May 3rd 2022 - Updated Monday, May 9th 20221. Use the ship’s WIFI while in port – A lot of the cruise ships will connect to terrestrial broadband while they are in port. This will you give increased internet speeds compared to when the ship is at sea and connecting to a satellite that is hundreds of miles away from the ship.
2. FREE WIFI in port – Are you looking for a place to connect to free WIFI while in port? Just ask one of the crew members. They know all of the free WIFI spots in each port. You might notice a group of the ship crews outside of a restaurant or bar with tablets and phones out. That is a good sign that there is free WIFI there. Remember however that those free WIFI are not secure.
3. Why overpack you can do your laundry on board. You can either pay to have it sent out or the ships all have washers and dryers that you can do your laundry for around $3.00 to wash and $2.00 to dry. Just remember to pack some powdered laundry soap. Great when you do a back-to-back or a long cruise.
4. Surge Protector with USB Outlets – We all know, that no one can live without our devices. You can find small surge protectors with USB outlets on the internet for under $20. They take up very little room in your bags and it is great for charging your phones, e-readers, etc.
5. Ziploc bags – They always come in handy. Use them when heading to the beach to keep water and sand away from your phone, camera, cash, passport, etc.
6. Rolling clothes – I started doing this in the Navy. Rolling clothes before putting them in the suitcase will help prevent wrinkles and it will also take up less space. Who has time to iron on a cruise?
7. Dryer Sheets – Try putting them in your suitcase to keep your clothes smelling fresh.
8. Pill Container – Use it to keep your jewelry organized and untangled.
9. Plastic Shoe Rack – This is a great way to keep things organized in the cabins. It takes up little space in your suitcase and can be hung on the bathroom door.
10. Be sure to pack valuables – jewelry, cameras, electronics, prescriptions, PASSPORT, boarding passes – in your carry on and keep them with you. Do NOT put your PASSPORT (or birth certificate) in your luggage that you give to the porter at the pier. You will NEED your passport and boarding pass to get on the ship!
